During the participation in the SMAU 2019, the first studies for the development of new Biomaterials were launched using the HelixComplex snail secretion (HC). These products had as their focus the antiherpetic ability and the regenerative property. In fact some molecules within the HC formulated in lip patches exhibited an enhanced interesting properties in the the treatment and prevention of HSV-1 infections; the other focus was on the enhancement of the repairing capacities of the molecular complex of HC formulated by liposomal systems, with an increase of the cellular migration around double in comparison with the HC in liquid form.

During the annual conference of the Italian Society of Microbiology, the results of the studies on the antimicrobial activity of HC and on the identification of a 41kDa protein that would be responsible for this effect were presented.

On the occasion of the Annual Conference of the Society for European research on free radicals (SFRRE) which took place in Ferrara from 19 to 21 June 2019, we showed the preliminary results on the antioxidant and protective activity of HelixComplex Snail Mucus against ozone.

In this article the complexity of the snail secretion has been highlighted for the first time, with clear reference to the HelixComplex and to the fact that various factors are involved in this diversity, also the results of a series of tests conducted to validate the suitability of this raw material for cosmetic use.
